These are two things that I've been working on over the last few months that I felt worked well together. I found the samples on the same day and after realizing that they both evoked the style and sound of a particular era and a particular machine, I decided to go full on with it and make something that was an obvious nod to both. You'll hear recognizable breaks on here, and that's the entire point-people were getting some serious mileage out of Ultimate Breaks and Beats back then.

"Kitchen Sink" is my nod to the cats that sampled anything and everything, taking seemingly unlike sources and making them work. It was really just an exercise that ended up sounding pretty cool.

"Vibey" was just an excuse to do something jazzy with a vibes sample…definitely influenced by the kinda beats you'd hear in the background between songs on Stretch and Bob. A simple loop with solid drums.

Everything sourced from vinyl or cassette into an SP 202 and then bounced to an SP 404. These are both live performances with no sequencing; if I messed up, I just did it over.

Cover photo by me, taken at a rummage sale in Loveland, CO earlier this year. The dog's name is Buddy Holly. That's my handwriting on the cover. Ryan Laing laid out the cover image for me.
